The Christmas Spider and Christmas tree tinsel legend has many versions - basically one Christmas Eve an old lady had her tree up ready for Christmas day, she kept her house very clean, no dust or dirt to be found anywhere. However spiders visited her Christmas tree and when either Santa or the Christ Child came (depending the version of the story told), he having seen the clean house turned the spider's web to silver to make it part of the decoration. (some stories say gold and silver). Every since then tinsel was hung on the Christmas Tree.
